Leaving Mumbai feels good, even if it is only for a few days. The city throws at you a whole lot more than you came looking for, that’s what cities do though. New York was the same, why would Mumbai be any different. Well, I am heading to the top of the country – Bir, Himachal Pradesh. One of the most coveted paragliding spots in India, Billing, the launch site 14 Kms from Bir is located a very cool altitude of 2400 mts. The paragliding season open September through October attracts fliers from around the globe as well as from within India. This year is special for Bir, the world of paragliding is converging upon this small town in the mountains of northern India. The Paragliding World Cup 2015 is being held in Bir, the event hosted by PWC will have 150 top ranked pilots in the world competing along with 500 free flyers.
The event is made up of a series of events that range from speed trials to cross country paragliding. It is a sight to behold, more than a hundred paragliders in the air together, soaring with the vultures.
The weather was playing spoilsport, most of the events were cancelled due to poor visibility but when the skies cleared up everyone was rushing to get in the air.
